Annuals

Fuchsia

This plant comes in many varieties, and it’s popular with almost all gardeners. Whether it’s the abstract look of it, or the pop of color it offers, this one will forever be a gardening favorite.

Since it’s well-known, most people already know that it attracts hummingbirds, makes great hanging baskets, and are sure to capture people’s attention. However, most people don’t know that it’s actually a perennial.

Fuchsias are actually what you would call “tender perennials,” which means it requires great care. In tropical regions, it’s grown outside, as a perennial. Outside tropical regions, we grow it  as an annual because it won’t survive for long in our climate. What a shame.

Type: Annual (nontropical), Perennial (tropical)

Temperature: 60-75° Fahrenheit during the day, about 55°F at night.

Light: Bright light, but no direct sun.

Water: Once or twice a week thoroughly, more if your soil dries out quickly (the ones in baskets, usually).
