Tricky Vegetables

If I had a nickel for every time I’ve seen gardeners doubt themselves when it comes to vegetable gardening, I would have saved up enough for my own vineyard, greenhouse, and house by now. But who can blame them? Vegetables aren’t easy. There’s tricks, little pieces of information, that make the difference between a good cucumber, and a great cucumber.

I’ve found it’s best to start off small. Don’t grow enormous portions of each vegetable. It could be a waste of money, if you don’t know what you’re doing. Think of it as a test: will this work, or does that work better? Once you find the key, stick with it. Also, start with some hardy vegetables, and slowly work your way up to the trickier ones.

Here’s a list of a few hardy vegetables you may want to consider starting your garden off with:

  • Asparagus
  • Turnips
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Peas
  • Shallots
  • Carrots
  • Spinach
  • Garlic
  • Leeks
  • Horseradish
  • Kale Plant
  • Parsnip
  • Onions
