Woody Plants
The Carolina Allspice
Normally, low-maintenance means boring when it comes to a lot of woody plants. More often than not it means nothing but green leaves, no color, no excitement. However, this shrub brings everything to your table, or in this case, your garden.
The Carolina Allspice is full of surprises. Instead of getting a pop of color once a year, the Allspice gives you two! It gives you dark red (burgundy or copper as well) flowers in the early summer, and the leaves turn yellow in the fall.
Also, the flowers smell good, rather fruity, but they have a very faint spicy fragrance to them, hence the name. It smells quite nice, unless you ask a deer. You’ll never have to worry about deer with this shrub.
So if you’re looking for a shrub that is beautiful, and single-handedly breaks the traditional mold, the Carolina Allspice is the one you’ve been searching for.
